Aligned with the radical people’s holiday, May Day is an annual festival-fundraiser marking CounterPULSE’s birthday with a star-studded performance showcase of the diverse and stunning artists who breathe life into this eclectic arts space. This year’s May Day is set to inspire and challenge audiences with three completely unique evenings of performance, packed with the Bay Area’s most thrilling dance companies, performance artists, comedians, drag queens, circus artists, and more.
Friday’s DANCE extravaganza presents dance fans with a jaw-dropping line up of the Bay Area’s hottest dance superstars. Performers include: AXIS Dance Company, Charlotte Moraga, Chris Black, Deborah Slater Dance Theater, Lizz Roman Dance, Robert Moses Kin, Scott Wells & Dancers, Zaccho Dance Theatre.
Saturday’sCABARET welcomes the Bay Area’s phenomenal circus artists and risky and risqué burlesque, and masterful drag. Performers include: The Devil-Ettes, Fou Fou Ha, Honey Mahogany, La Chica Boom, Marina Luna, Natasha Kaluza, Tommy Shephard, Seth Eisen, VivvyAnne ForeverMORE, and Mona G. Hawd.
Sunday’s exhibition of QUEER(ing) Performance highlights Bay Area’s most contemporary and compelling queer performance, MC’ed by legendary Guillermo Gomez-Peña. Performers include: Anne Bluethenthal, Cecilio Cooper/ThiswayThatway, D’Lo, Dance Brigade, Jesse Hewit/Strong Behavior, KUNST-STOFF, Laura Arrington Dance, and Sara Felder.

Three of the Bay Area’s most outrageous and influential queer performance artists take the stage at California College of the Arts’ Timken Hall on February 22nd, 2011.
Cecilio Cooper, Keith Hennessy, and Tina Takemoto showcase three exciting perspectives on performance art as it is being defined in the Bay Area—one of the most vibrant scenes in contemporary queer art.
Moderated by Mel Corn (aka Jake Danger), the artists will discuss their work as part of an ongoing series of Queer Conversations on Culture and the Arts (QCCA) organized by the Queer Cultural Center and the California College of the Arts.
